About Steve

Steve thompson has been involved in music for more than forty years & in that time he's

toured the world with many famous names from the British 60s music scene. Currently playing lead guitar for Gerry & The Pacmakers, Steve still very much enjoys the feel of live music & the thrill of the stage.

Steve started playing live gigs at the age of 15, with his school band.. ORBE.. a four piece

which consitsed of Drums, Bass, & two Guitars.. playing covers & their own compositions.

Their gigs were mainly church halls & school dances playing to very few people for very little money but always enjoyable. The band were together for 5 years but eventually due to musical differences, they split & Steve left the band at the grand old age of 20 years old.. Along came the band REFLEX, another four piece, playing their own materiel around the clubs & bars of Nottingham. After having no success securing a record deal, Steve left after 4 short years.

The next 5 years Steve spent on the club scene playing in many outfits from 8 piece bands ( The Sincere Americans ) to  duo's learning his craft along the way.

In 1989, Steve got his first proffessional position playing bass along side Lead singer of The Tremleoes, Brian Poole & within just two weeks, he was in New Zealand  & then on to a 5 week tour of Australia. After one year he went back onto his 1st instument lead guitar & continued with Brian & The Electrix for the next 11 years enjoying many European & worldwide tours..

              In 2001, along came GERRY

Steve joined Gerry & The Pacemakers on January 16th 2001 playing his first gig at the Palace Theatre in Newark. After many World tours, Airports, Bars & Hotels, he still continues to work with Gerry.

The Pacemakers continue to play to crowds all over the World & still ocasionally work with Gerry on his own  show ( Gerry cross The Mersey )

Although his schedule is very busy, Steve still finds time to play with his own band ( The Beat Club ) enjoying classic songs from the 60s & 70s.

He still continues to write his own songs just for pleasure & over the last 4 years, has started a solo show playing a mixture of pop & rock tunes in clubs & pubs all over the country.

From the first time Steve heard The Beatles play, he says he was ( bitten by the music bug )

a bite that will last forever....
